Belfast Ruby

After working on this for the last couple of weeks, I'm happy to say the new Belfast Ruby website is live. www.belfastruby.org

We unveiled the new site at last week's Belfast Ruby meetup, as it tied in perfectly with Coby Chapple's talk about making a website using static-site generator Jekyll, and hosting it on GitHub Pages, as I'd done exactly that for the creation of the site.

I'm pretty sure Jekyll is my new favourite tool now :) I used layouts and nested layouts to quickly style the pages, as well as the liquid templating language to effortlessly maintain a blog. To add next month's event details all I need to do is write a new markdown file with the content, sweet!

Design-wise, it presented a new challenge for me as the only images the site contains are the sponsor logos, so the focus was on typography. If you have any feedback about the design let me know!

Another thing, the site is open sourced and anyone is free to contribute - I've written a blog post about that on Rumble's blog, check it out!
