RIDE ON PDX: A skateboard art show that benefits children's art workshops.

Back in April, I had the honor to work with Joe Henry McQuary, one of the coolest kids I have ever met, on a custom skateboard deck for a show called Ride On PDX hosted by MEGABOLT and Avalia Skateboards. Joe Henry has a medical condition called Klippell-Trenaunay which essentially has increased growth in his hands and feet. Whilst having this condition, Joe-Henry has done more and changed peoples lives in ways that has really inspired me.
We had a workshop at the studio of Jolby and Friends (http://jolbyandfriends.com/), cutting up paper and figuring out a cool pattern for a deck that would be mass-produced by Avalia Skateboards (http://avaliaboards.com/) out of Wisconsin. After chatting about the Packers and dub step for a couple hours, we sucked down root beer and had a general template of what we were going to do. I packed up my schnibbles of paper and flew back to Milwaukee, ready to assemble. In the end, we had a really cool deck, and a memorable experience for the both of us.
If you are in Portland June 29th, or feel like getting wild and flying out there, the Ride On PDX will be a kick ass show. Along with Joe-Henry's creation, the gallery show will feature custom created decks by some of the best designers in the country...seriously, the artist list is insane. Thanks to Steven Kasprzyk for curating this event, and for giving me the opportunity to be apart of a great experience.
