See Touch Hear

The final, final (for reals) final cover for the first ever digital edition of McLuhan's "Understanding Media" which will hopefully be available soon via the usual digital book outlets - iBooks, Amazon, B&N, etc.

While the cover may look simple, there's quite a lot of little details that reference parts of the book itself and some of McLuhan's broader ideas about media. One of the important goals of the design was to recognize how readers will actually interact with the cover (most often in thumbnail sized nuggets) and to look good and remain sufficiently readable and identifiable on any type of screen, whether e-ink or high resolution colour LCD.

Can you identify all the patterns hidden in the cover? Can you figure out what the primary underlying pattern is that makes up the design?
