Fictive Kin Logotype

Fictive Kin is a group of outrageously talented designers and developers making some of the best products on the web. They're the guys behind events like brooklynbeta.org and apps such as gimmebar.com and teuxdeux.com

I first met the FK crew in NY back in 2010 and was super excited to work with them in creating their new identity this year. For their image, they were looking for something quite formal, traditional and upmarket which would provide a well-balanced contrast to their light hearted and friendly style of communications.

As you can see in the final logotype and development (see attached) the concept of the identity was to capture the juxtaposition between their playful imagination and their serious professionalism. The name 'Fictive Kin' is a term used to describe friends who are more like family, the word 'Fictive' meaning 'created by imagination'- a lively script paired with custom Bodoni was the call of the day.

It's exciting times in Fictive Kin land. They recently joined forces with Betaworks and just this week have teamed up with Analog bringing legends Jon Tan and Chris Shiflett officially into the mix.
